Pay your Membership dues for SWE by this WEDNESDAY!!!!!

November 29, 2010

Ladies,

Please pay for your SWE membership dues by this Wednesday. If we get enough members for Region G, we will be able to have more representation. Encourage other members in your section to pay this due. If you are a freshman, sophomore, or pre-junior, then the C2C (Collegiate to Career membership) would be your best choice of membership. It’ll last the rest of your undergrad (and graduate) and one year of professional.

Thank you,

Lindsey Montanari

November HOT TOPIC: Societal Involvement outside of your collegiate section

November 17, 2010

Hello Ladies,

There is a bigger SWE world than your section. Now that the year is coming to an end, make it your New Years SWE goal to become more involved outside of your college bubble. The following are some opportunities:

Region G Conference: Attend our wonderful conference which will be held at The Ohio State University on February 18th-20th. Most likely your section will pay for you to go and you get to learn about events in the region. You will meet so many new people and our professionals. There will also be speakers available who will talk about interesting and important topics.

Elected Positions: Besides your section positions, there are regional postions too. They are RCR, RCCE, RCS, and SWEFLs. If you want to know more about these positions, please feel free to email any of us. Our emails can be found on the “Meet Our Region Collegiate Team” page found on the homepage. Also, if you go to Region Conference, then you can meet us in person :)

Annual Conference: If you like Region Conference, then you will LOVE Annual Conference. It’s one of the largest meetings you will ever attend. There is so much to do at conference, like the Career Fair (a few girls from my section were offered 3 to 4 co-op positions on the spot), SME Bowl, speakers, meeting professionals (who would love to get your contact information), and much, much more. This upcoming year will be held in Chicago so it’s only a driving length away.

Meeting Professionals: There is a secret resource: professionals. They are wonderful and will help you with anything. Try having an event to meet them, like a professional dinner or mock interviews. You never know who could get you a job in the future.

Try these suggestions and get the most out of SWE!!

Lindsey

RCR Update for Annual Conference!

November 2, 2010

Hi Region G!

Annual Conference is only a few days away!! Here is some more information along with things to keep in mind while at conference!

Region Meeting, Thursday 2:00-4:00PM: This is required for section presidents and highly recommended for section officers. All collegiates at the conference should attend this Thursday region meeting. There is also a collegiate leaders’ reception on Friday night which you should attend to network and thank the companies sponsoring the FREE housing. Also, let your section treasures know about the Region & Section Treasurer’s Meeting on Thursday after the region meeting.

Collegiate Leaders Meeting, Friday 7:30-9:00AM- Section Presidents are required to attend this meeting! I know it’s early but don’t brave the wee hours of the morning alone–encourage other officers and section leaders to join you as well!!  Just an FYI, we will be sharing a room with Region F.

e-Postcard Meeting: In order to help answer e-postcard questions, Wendy and Jessica will be attending the Section Treasurers Meeting on Thursday afternoon (and will be able to stay after to answer questions). Also, they plan to hold a special question and answer session on Friday morning, immediately following the Collegiate Leaders Meeting (so 9:00am). This session is not in the schedule and will just be Wendy and Jessica going over the basic e-postcard process and answering individual questions. I don’t have the room assignment yet, but it will be in the large room that is listed in the conference schedule for the collegiate leaders meeting.

Professionalism: Please remember to act professionally while at conference—you are a leader within SWE! Attire is business casual for the conference, and you’ll want to wear business for the career fair. Celebrate SWE is formal (but business casual can suffice) and you can wear casual attire to the ice cream social :)

Please also pass on to your sections that we are in need of a representative on the National Nominating Committee! Members on this committee nominate Region Officers and help build the leadership pipeline. This is a great way to get involved in SWE and learn a lot about the society!

Get more Involved with your Region!

November 1, 2010

Members,

You ever wanted to actually be a part of something more than your section? Here is a way to be more involved, but not too involved…join the Region G Nominating Committee. The Region G Nominating committee is seeking members to help for FY11. They would ideally like at least 1 representative from each section/MAL and 1-3 collegiate members (that’s where you guys come in).

What does the Region Nominating Committee do:

  • Helps educate the Region on Local, Region and National leadership opportunities
  • Seeks qualified candidates for Regional Offices – Governor, Lt. Governor, Treasurer, Secretary, Senators, and Nominating Committee Chair
  • Reviews Region Officer Applications
  • Leads the Region Leadership Pipeline Effort

Qualification:

  • Member of SWE
  • Not interested in running for the Region Officer Position in FY12 (June 2011-June 2012/13 depending on position)
  • Willing to work with team from across the region

If interested:

Contact Pam Snyder at pamsnyder@gmail.com or cell 585-967-7198. They will try to get all interested members together at National conference as well as plan a conference call in November after conference.

SME Bowl at Annual Conference…Win some major MONEY!!!

November 1, 2010

Show off your skills at Conference with SME Bowl. Here are rules and information from Irene Hodor:

Only 1 time participation is allowed – if a collegiate has participated in
SME Bowl in prior years, she may not participate again (and yes, we check
prior years’ participants to confirm). Each Region is permitted to have 5
team members, maximum. If you can’t get 5 members, you can compete with
less..or you may ‘borrow’ team members from other Regions. But if the Region
places, the Region prize money goes to the designated Region only (ie: If
Region A’s team includes a team member from Region B and places 1st, all
$2,000 will go to Region A only).  Although, the individuals receive their
own prize money (so in my prior example, the Region B team member would
receive her own $100 individual cash prize).]

Recall that each 1st/2nd/3rd place team receives the following cash prizes:
1st: $2,000 to the Region, $100 for each team member, 2nd: $1,500 to the
Region, $75 to each team member, 3rd: $1,000 to the Region, $50 to each team
member.

When Regions submit their Team member info, they should include an alternate
member…this is in the event that one of the 5 listed team members ends up
unable to attend (due to a workshop, job interview or tour conflict not
previously identified).  Since we check the team members to confirm no prior
participation, we like to know who the alternate may be ahead of time.

Once the Region Team plays their first round, they may not swap/change team
members.

Here is the Team sign-up sheet, please have the list completed at the Region
Meetings and submitted to the ExxonMobil booth during the Career Fair on
Thursday or Friday.(See attached file: 2010 SME BOWL Sign-up sheet.doc)

If you have questions/concerns at Conference, please don’t hesitate to
contact me: (310) 977-1422 or at this email, which I check regularly.
