Call for SWE Future Leader Nominations

April 15, 2011

Do you know of an outstanding freshman or sophomore with potential for future leadership in SWE? Nominate him or her for this year’s SWE Future Leaders Program!

SWEFL Program participants will be selected based on their nominations and their availability to attend this year’s Collegiate Leadership Forum (CLF), which will be held August 18 – 20 in Austin, TX. At this event, participants will have the opportunity to:

  • attend the BOD installation dinner
  • receive leadership and SWE training
  • participate in professional development workshops
  • network with other collegiate leaders (RCR/RCCE/RCSs), the Region Governors, and BOD members

After the CLF, SWEFLs may be called upon to participate in SWE collegiate focus groups and encouraged to apply for SWE leadership positions at their collegiate section or at the region or society level.

If you would like to nominate someone for this opportunity, please fill out the form which is available here: http://www.surveymonkey.com/FY12SWEFLNOM

The nomination form asks for your contact information and the SWEFL nominee’s contact information.  The following questions are also part of the nomination, so please include as much information as possible:

  1. Is the nominee currently in a SWE leadership position? If yes, what is their role?
  2. Why do you believe the nominee has great potential for future SWE leadership?
  3. How would attendance at the Collegiate Leadership Forum benefit the nominee as an individual and as a SWE member?

The deadline for SWEFL Program nominations is April 18, 2011.   If you have any questions about the SWEFL nomination program, please feel free to contact the CLF Coordinator at clf-coordinator@swe.org.

Success at OSU!

December 31, 2010

Hi SWEsters!

Our section at the Ohio State University just wanted to take this opportunity to share a new event we tried this year. Back in October, we took a trip to the OSU Center for Automobile Research (CAR) to learn the basic skills of how to take care of our cars. In just about two hours, all of us learned how to jump a car, change a tire, test the tire pressure, change the oil and read different gauges on several cars. We also had the opportunity to tour the research facility and learn about a variety of different mechanical/car related activities on campus. In addition to this, the girls who drove us to CAR allowed their cars to be the test cars for the tire and oil changing; thus they got free maintenance on their cars! And, of course, we all had pizza and hung out with the people at the research center afterwards.

This turned out to be one of our most successful events of the first quarter. Other than our general meeting, this was our most attended event so far this year! We had a lot of positive feedback on it and multiple girls express that they would love to do this event next year. If anyone is looking for a new, fun, educative event to try, we would highly recommend something similar to our CAR event!

Also, when you come to OSU this February for the Regional Conference, we will have an event very similar to the CAR event as one of our optional tours! If the event above sounds like fun to you, be sure to sign up! We’re really excited to see all of you at the conference!

Have a happy New Year!

OSU SWE
