January Hot Topic: Making the Most of the Region G Conference

Below is an E-Blast sent by Leah Dieball and Diane Leveridge, the 2010 Region G Conference Co-Chairs from the University of Kentucky.  This E-Blast will provide you with all of the important details that you will need to make the most out of the upcoming Region G Conference from March 5th – 7th, 2010.

Join us for the 2010 Region G Conference to be held at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY on March 5-7, 2010.  From professional development sessions to SWE business meetings to a career fair, there is something for everyone at the conference!  If you want to see a bit of the area tours offered include hard-hat tours of the new UK Medical Center, the historic Lyric Theater, the Kentucky Horse Park, and Woodford Reserve bourbon distillery are available.  Be sure come for the highlight of the conference, an evening at the Spindletop Hall where the first annual Region G SWE Awards Recipients will be announced!

The keynote speaker is University of Kentucky electrical engineering graduate Dr. Carey Buxton, with the FBI Engineering Research Facility in Fredericksburg, VA.  Dr. Buxton received her BSEE from the University of Kentucky in 1994. That same year she was awarded the NSF Fellowship for support of her graduate work specializing in Numerical Electromagnetics and Electromagnetic Compatibility. She received her MSEE in 1996 from the University of Kentucky and was awarded the Bradley Fellowship from Virginia Tech’s College of Electrical and Computer Engineering.  She specialized in Numerical Electromagnetics and Antenna Design as part of Virginia Tech’s Antenna Group.  She received her Ph.D. from Virginia Tech in 2001 for her dissertation on mutual coupling in broadband phased arrays.  In 2003 she began working for the FBI’s Antenna Systems Development Facility (ASDF).  As program manager with ASDF she manages the research and development of antenna systems for the FBI.  She is also a government resource for antenna design and development.  In 2006, she was the first FBI employee awarded the DNI Science and Technology Fellowship for her work in antennas.
