September Hot Topic: Back to School – Back to SWE

As the temperatures begin to cool and the leaves begin to bid tree branches another farewell, we must admit that our summer has depleted. Whether we spent the summer soaking up some sun, working in a new location, or taking a few summer courses; it’s always hard to head back to school and refocus our attention on another year filled with stacks of books and assignments that fill the path from now to graduation.  If any of you are like me, you’re finding difficulty trading the leisure of summer for the academic year. But soon enough, we’ll be back in the swing of college life and winter break will be here.

Until then, we should take advantage of SWE to help us get through the semester. Let’s work together to put the FY12 theme, “Multiply the Momentum,” into action. Let’s set short time and long term goals for the semester and begin trying to achieve them.  SWE’s annual conference, WE11 occurring in Chicago, IL October 13-15 can be a great deadline for achieving some short-term goals. Whether it’s recruiting a certain number of new members, setting plans for new outreach activities, or gaining support from local companies to help throughout the 2011-2012 academic year, let’s set goals and work together to achieve them.

If you have any great goal ideas or need help with anything for the semester, please comment on this post. By working together, our region can carry out SWE’s mission to aspire, advance, and achieve. Let the new academic year bring about new goals and new accomplishments for your section. And as you accomplish the goals you set out for your section, please share them with me at rcce-g@swe.org so I can share them with the region. My hope is that through the accomplishments of our fellow collegiates, we can be inspired to achieve more than we ever thought possible.
