Miss University of Louisville title awarded to Speed School Student!

Louisville, KY- February 24, 2013. Amelia Gandara, 24, was awarded the title of Miss University of Louisville 2013.  She is a junior in the Speed School of Engineering at the university and is majoring in Chemical Engineering.

The competition included areas of interview, personal fitness, talent, evening gown and on-stage questions. Eleven bright young women, ranging from 18-24 years-old and from all areas of study, vied for the titles of Miss University of Louisville and Miss Cardinal Country.  Sarah Cocanougher, a Kappa Delta, was awarded the title of Miss Cardinal Country.

Amelia’s personal platform focuses on encouraging young people into STEM fields (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). In addition to promoting her personal platform, Amelia will also work to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network, an overall platform for the Miss America Organization (MAO).

The MAO exists to provide personal and professional opportunities for young women and to promote their voices in culture, politics and the community.  MAO is the world’s largest provider of scholarship assistance for young woman. In line with that mentality, the Miss University of Louisville Scholarship Organization, sponsored by Delta Zeta (Beta Gamma Chapter), awarded Amelia two half-semester scholarships (in-state), a $1,500 cash scholarship and an assortment of other great prizes.

Amelia is available for public speaking events and appearances.  She will continue to represent the university with pride as she now begins preparing for the Miss Kentucky Scholarship Pageant that will take place in Lexington, Kentucky this June 27-29, 2013.
