During the fall 2013 semester, Ohio State SWE planned many traditional and implemented a number of new social events in order to increase attendance at SWE events and to continue the successful ones. In order to draw as many members and potential members in, our chapter does our best to make the social events in a relaxed and comfortable setting. The first social event of the fall semester was tailgate in the basement of Donato’s pizza to watch the Ohio State football away game against California. The event provided attendees with pizza, pop, and the company of other SWEsters. This event draws a large number of SWE members and since it is placed early in the semester helps draw in freshman who might be unsure of whether SWE is right for them.
Another social event that has become a normal for our section is Woody’s socials. Woody’s tavern is a pizza and wing eating facility on campus. This fall, our chapter had two Woody’s socials where we provided pizza, wings and pop to all members in attendance. These socials have proven to be popular because everyone seems to love a free meal and time to catch up with fellow SWEsters.
Another returning favorite for SWE members is Wildlights at the Zoo. At this event, members go to the Columbus Zoo to admire the seasonal decorations to see some of their favorite zoo animals. This opportunity provides students an opportunity to get off campus and have a study break.
To draw the semester to a close here at Ohio State, the SWE officers each prepared a part of a pasta meal to serve to all members of SWE who wished to attend. The “end of the semester” was a break right before finals started to reflect on the events of the semester and allow for some relaxation with some great food.
