WE16: The World’s Largest Conference for Women Engineers

WE16 in Philadelphia turned out to be the biggest SWE conference yet! There were over 11,ooo attendees, hundreds of employers and graduate schools, and over 1200 Invent It Build It participants. Whether you were a freshmen collegiate member or experienced professional, there was something for everyone at WE16! Not only were there tons of great sessions to attend, but other events like the Keynote breakfast, Awards Reception, Celebrate SWE, and collegiate luncheons gave members the chance to connect with new friends and meet up with ones.

The conference was a huge success for the society, and our region also had many accomplishments!  Charles E. Browning, Ph.D. from the University of Dayton received the Rodney D. Chipp Memorial Award for advocating for women in engineering. Erica Brackman from the Ohio State University won an Outstanding Collegiate Member Award. Many of our collegiate sections won awards for Gold Outstanding Collegiate Section! Winners include: Carnegie Mellon University, Ohio State University, Penn State University, University of Kentucky, University of Pittsburgh, and West Virginia University. Ohio University won Silver Outstanding Collegiate Section. The University of Pittsburgh also won the Member Retention Award. The Pittsburgh Professional Section won the Communication Award. Congratulations to everyone who won awards!!

I hope to see everyone at the inaugural WE Local, in Pittsburgh, PA in February and again at WE17 in Austin, Texas next year!
